Sometimes the path forward only appears when you stop running in circles.
At 36, I found myself at rock bottom.
The career I had worked so hard for felt meaningless.
My future looked like a blank wall.
Everyone had suggestions: "Go back to training." "Do something easier." "Take some time." "Do something else”.
Yeah? Like what?!
But the reality is that when you are lost, you don't need more options. You need to remember who you are underneath the chaos.
When you don’t know what career path to take, nothing seems to work.
Vision boards. Life coaches. Career assessments. Five-year plans.
These ideas are useless when you can barely plan dinner; sitting down to journal isn’t going to help when you are overwhelmed and can’t see a way out.
Here's what I discovered during those dark months:
Direction isn't found. It's built. One small decision at a time.
The Direction Discovery Method That Actually Works
Something shifted inside me. Without even realizing it, I became obsessed with learning and growing again.
Self-protection, I suppose.
I started soaking up everything about rebuilding and turned to books, articles, videos and anything I could get my hands on that would educate me and help me out of the mess.
A productivity hack here.
A parenting insight there.
A business strategy that sparked curiosity.
A quote about resilience that made me cry.
I wasn't looking for direction. I was just collecting breadcrumbs of hope.
That collection became everything.
The Direction Discovery Method has three simple steps:
Collect what resonates (even if you don't know why)
Save articles, quotes, stories, or ideas that spark something in you. Don't question it or try to make sense of it yet
Connect patterns over time
After a few months, review your collection and notice what themes keep appearing. Your subconscious has been guiding you toward what matters.
Create your next right step
Based on the patterns you've discovered, take one small action. Not a life overhaul, just the next logical move forward.
Learn. Grow. Monetize. Personal and Professional Growth + Sell Your Skills.
Want to future-proof your income? Time to make your skills pay and earn your worth.
My Curated Growth Plan
Six months later, scrolling through my saved items, I saw patterns I'd missed:
Everything I saved was about growth—personal or professional
I gravitated toward stories of people who'd rebuilt after loss
I bookmarked practical strategies, not just inspiration
I saved monetization tips because I needed a viable path
My scattered collection revealed my direction.
How You Can Start Today
When you're overwhelmed by options, your intuition still knows what resonates.
Set up your collection system
Use your phone's notes app or browser bookmarks. Nothing fancy—just somewhere to dump things quickly.
Start collecting daily
Save articles that make you think "Yes, this!", stories that resonate, skills you're curious about, or problems you want to solve. Don't analyze—just save.
Review monthly
Look for patterns in what you've collected. What topics keep appearing? What types of stories do you gravitate toward? Your patterns reveal your natural direction.
Take one small step
Based on your patterns, do ONE thing—take a course, reach out to someone whose story resonated, or start a small project. You're not committing to a life path, just taking the next logical step.
This can’t be rushed; give yourself at least three months of collecting before forcing any themes. Let patterns emerge naturally.
Your Challenge
Set up your system and begin saving anything that resonates. Don't wait for motivation—confusion is the perfect time to start.
Your direction isn't lost. It's hiding in what you're naturally drawn to.
